DESCRIPTION:This weekend is always one of our most popular events of the ye
 ar. It’s our Special Olympic Charity weekend and we have a tournament an
 d level for every player. In the sand\, we have a 4’s rec. and int. tour
 nament beginning at 9:30 am. Also beginning at 8:30am is a Men’s and Wom
 en’s Hard court tournament. To wrap up the day\, we have a 3’s Int. an
 d ADV tournament beginning at 4:30. It’s going to be a busy day\, so cle
 ar your calendars and plan on a whole lot of volleyball!!! The Nova Fee is
  not required for this event.\n\nSpecial Olympics is an international orga
 nization that changes lives by promoting understanding\, acceptance and in
 clusion between people with and without intellectual disabilities. Special
  Olympics has created a model community that celebrates people’s diverse
  gifts. Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver\, Special Olympics provi
 des people with intellectual disabilities continuing opportunities to real
 ize their potential\, develop physical fitness\, demonstrate courage and e
 xperience joy and friendship. Our founder\, Dorothy Buehring Phillips\, es
 tablished the Special Olympics New York program in 1969. That same year\, 
 New York sent a delegation of athletes and coaches to the Northeast Region
 al Special Olympics competition in Boston\, Massachusetts. Special Olympic
 s New York was fully incorporated in 1970 and Phillips was appointed the f
 irst State Director. In June\, 1970\, the first State Summer Games were he
 ld in Rochester.\n\nToday\, Special Olympics New York (SONY) is the larges
 t program in the United States and the nearly the largest program in the w
 orld. Our headquarters are located in Schenectady\, with offices in the Lo
 ng Island\, New York City\, Hudson Valley\, Capital\, Central\, Genesee an
 d Western Regions.\n\n&nbsp\;
